"The only way to get through life is to laugh your way through it. You either have to laugh or cry. I prefer to laugh. Crying gives me a headache."Well I have a headache right now, from crying. The good kind of crying, if that makes any sense. If crying give you a headache is it really good? Anyway I was going through some old boxes down stairs looking for the blanket Bryce made me a long time ago (if you saw it anytime in the past year or so let me know chances are it hasn't moved) and I found the book "Memories of My Baptism". Grandma and Grandpa Baker sent it to me when I was baptized and they were on there mission. Funny thing is out of the 60+ pages that are in it probably one 5 or 6 are written on. The what about me page, the guest sign in, My Testimony page and two pages of Testimonies of Other Family Members and Special Friends. Gma and Gpa both wrote me a letter with there testimonies in it, and they brought me to tears.
I think it is the only letter Gpa has ever written me and when ever I think of Gma and her testimony I think of the time when Brother Riveros was standing at the pulpit closing testimony meeting and Gma stands up from her pew in the back and goes running up there yelling wait I haven't gone yet, classic. I made it through Gma's letter thinking oh how sweet. Then laughed when I remembered that Sunday.
Then reading Gpa's letter; I was in tears before I even got half way through it. I think mostly because he talks about how great of a place Palmyra is and how he could feel the spirit, and that I could to if I chose the right. Then he told me how he hoped I would be able to visit Palmyra one day, which took me back to when I was actually in Palmyra and sitting the Sacred Grove, and learning all about church history and actually being in the places that we read about in the scriptures. And it always give me and Gpa something to talk about; it would be so cool to be able to go with Gma and Gpa back to up state New York.

I love Gma and Gpa so much, they make me laugh. Gpa refuses to wear his hearing aids so Gma has to tell him everything I just said or explain to him what just happened on the TV; then Gma when I was at there house today was still in her PJs till almost two o'clock just sitting watching TLC, the Food Network and HGTV, and then I introduced her to the Style Network. And there lack of computer knowledge. They have there purple ipod, they know how to turn it on and press play. Gma knows her way around the computer; your probably friends with her on facebook, its all she talks about these days. lol. But Gpa on the other hand doesn't even know how to turn it on, I was trying to help him find a radiator for his old '37 Ford today on the Internet, we weren't very successful. The Gma has been trying desperately to get me married off since I was probably 15. I remember sitting in Sacrament meeting and we would have some one from a different ward speaking or something and she would be like "Oh, Erin. He is cute." And I would turn red, like I still do. Every time I go to visit her she is bound to ask me if I am dating any one or if there is a special boy I would like to be dating. And if my answer is "Gma, there is no one to date." She will go something like this, "What happened to that boy from Paradise?" "What about Dan Taylor's kid?" "Why don't you date one of those Dixon boys?" or "Well who is at the Branch?" "Are there any boys at school you would like to date?" I want so badly to say "Gma it's Shasta College...have you seen the demographics or that school?!" I probably have once or twice. Todays conversation was a little bit different than ones in the past though it went a little bit more like this
"Have you been on any dates lately?"
"Do you consider three years ago, when I was sixteen going to my Junior Prom lately?"
"Oh Heavens! Well maybe you need to ask someone on a date."
"Been there done that; the only date I ever went on I asked him."
"Well what is wrong with these boys? You're a pretty girl."
I know you can imagine this conversation, probably as if you were there.
"I don't know Grandma, but there aren't many."
"Well what about when you went up that thing in Oregon?"
"You see Grandma when you go to those things you have the 18 year old boys who are leaving on missions and the 25+ year old men who are out of college or still trying to figure out what to do with there lives. Which can make things kinda awkward."
"Oh, well it sounds like you need to go to Idaho."
Grandpa chimes in, "Yeah, Kelly is up there."
"Yes, I know but it is cold. And I have already started here and I need to finish before I leave."
"Oh okay, but you need to date."
The conversation went on like this for the three hours I was there, along with "Where did Kelly meet Derek?" and her asking about specific people, most of which are either on there missions or away at school some where. Gma is funny. She makes me smile.
This most was a little bit random and really really long, but I felt the need to write it and I am also avoiding doing homework...like usual.
love ya :D
Yah, what about Dan Taylor's kid? You should have told her he has chest hair. hahahahahaha. Oh grandma. They were right though, you do need to come up here to Idaho. It's not that cold................
ReplyDeletehahaha...gross.
ReplyDeleteUm when you break out in hives at anything less than 45 degrees or with any kind of wind chill, chances are Idaho is too cold for you.
